Work Culture??? Pah!

This is probably the only moment in (my) blogging history that I feel i should've maintained anonymity.

Why? Because I HATE my office and I'm gonna be all super-bitchy in this post and what if someone from here is reading it...? Hmm, actually thinking of it, I'm sure none of these stupid, sad-ass morons around me would even come close to understanding the meaning of blogging.

Why am I here then? I guess it was because my aunt recommended it and so once I got the job, I couldn't turn it down. Also, the pay is decent and then there's the proximity factor. Hardly 10 min from my house. I should've just listened to my Dad. He kept telling me NOT to take this up. But I was insistent, as always, for no apparent reason. First of all, work and me itself are like miles apart. On top of that, I need to work in a place like this. So much for career idu adu. I quit my previous one 5 months into it cuz of this. And it's just been 4 months here. So, Why this frustration?

Reasons:
1. I work in a 3-member department.
2 men & me. Both married, both cheap fuckers. And they have ego-clashes as to who the bigger fucker is.

2. No Freedom of Speech & Movement: There's just ONE girl in this entire damn office that I talk to. Which in itself is a first for me. As in, I generally tend to make friends really fast. But here, since I'm in a totally different department, interaction with others is low. And I'm not complaining because I think I already have too many friends to handle. Now, I sit in the basement and she in the 1st floor. There isn't a loo on my floor (Yea! Imagineee!!!) and so I need to go up everytime. When I do, I just stop over at her place and do the usual "Had lunch? How's work?I'm so boredddd!" talk that lasts all of 2 mins and get back to my seat. Apparently sometime recently, her boss asked her why I keep coming up and talking to her so many times!!! (For 3 l of water, 3 loo-visits is within permissable limits, right??)

3. They have like a fuck-all 'dress code'. You have to wear a dupatta. Even if it has a high neck and full sleeves. Apparently, there are people from local colleges who work here as well and so the precaution.

Corporate Culture - my fucking torn bamboo chappal! I know it probably isn't reason enough to quit, but I sincerely wish I could. I could just say it a million times over that I'm not meant to work. I should be having my own restaurant or boutique. I should be designing clothes and conjuring up delicacies rather than preparing tender bid documents! Ayo ayo, enna kodumai sir idhu! (Translation: Oh!Oh! What torture sir this is! As alwayz, effect lost in translation)

These are also moments when I wouldn't mind being married - as long as the Mister is loaded and I would be designated "Home Maker"! *sigh*

Everybody's office sucks.. we have some problem or the other especially ego clashes.. You have to work your way around that as you ought to report to them.

Living nearby to office is actually good.. atleast for ppl like me, where my office is my first house here at Hyd..

Hey,
So much frustration. If all girls decide to quit work, bcos of these, there will be fewer and fewer girls in offices! :--)

What I would do is take it as a challenge and not give up.. I hate it when men underestimate women and think we do not fit their world.. I would very much like to prove otherwise to him...thats pep talk.

But of course finally its upto you and what you want to do with your life. If you dont like the work environment you should quit! You have to answer noone, but yourself.

Ok, take a few deeeeeeeep breaths and decide what you want to do. :--) Hope you feel better soon.

Funny post, lol.

The Maverick Blog said...

Poor gal... I know how frustrating this could be! Y don't u find urself a better place? Naatla velaya illa? And u r already 4 months old here... Speak to ur aunt and put ur papers after finding another opportunity that would match your interest...

And few hilarious parts of ur post:

//both cheap fuckers. And they have ego-clashes as to who the bigger fucker is.//

hehe... Here I don't understand how their ego clash will conclude who the bigger fucker is... Probably their respective wives shud answer this :D ... and now don't imagine too much...

//They have like a fuck-all 'dress code'.//

No comments! Sometimes English is very funny :D

Its news that such a primitive company in my Madras exists. It'd be better if u get this company off of u. Elders have said 'See dhushtan, keep distance!'.

As the saying goes, don't get mad, get even. Bide your time, keep your cool, and when you finally have your employers bending over, KICK THEM IN THEIR NUTS.

In other words, build a CV, get a better job and leave when it will hurt them the most. I assure you, it is immensely satisfying (though I am these days the recipient)

aneri_masi said...

tchah, don't sweat it dear. I was thinking there was some BIG thing going on. Its ok, re. work around it, and also be on a lookout for another job. But...whats with the dupatta-police?!

Okie Dokie said...

Huh! As Dubya might probably say

"Don't quit. Quitters quit. Winners don't, hmmm errr.., not quit."

Nobody is happy with their jobs. So stiff upper lip.

And, I am pretty sure your self respect will take a dive if you sit at home doing nothing.

Swetha said...

I know... the Home-maker thing is a little bit irritating.

I can understand, last year I had a summer job and I left it in 3 days for somewhat the same reasons.

Hang in there :)

Drenched said...

OH MY GOD! What the fuck is that about dupatta and the full sleeves? I thought Corporate world meant those cute short formal dresses and stilettos and all. It's as if you guys are still in school or something! "Precaution" indeed! God, I am pissed. I hate dumb restrictions of any sort! Even if it's about someone else.
As for the job, maybe just hang in there, earn something, save something, start your dream design thing and all and kick them in their balls before leaving.

ROFL @ fucking torn bamboo chappal! Hahahahahahahahaha.

rsubras said...

First things first..the colorful header is good :)

hey..am not gonna preach or anything..just my thot... in my very humble view....

>>the only moment in (my) blogging history that I feel i should've maintained anonymity.

:) There are so many reasons to remain anonymous in a virtual world...it is not like u shud not tell this or not tell that... but it is more like, not many ppl deserve to know about u

>>No Freedom of Speech & Movement:
hmm.. I wonder if it really is..or are u made to think like this... Anyway... no one can constrain us against our will as far as these are concerned....

>>Dress Code

Hmm...it is a necessary evil preeto..opinions might differ... but it is better to have some kind of code in place...again imho :)

well etho...looks like you are seriously pissed off... but just think..... you are sooper sooper girl..loads of attitude...ethanaiyo paarthachu.... do these stray incidents deserve to make u fume like this?? I dont think at all :)

>>I could just say it a million times over that I'm not meant to work. I should be having my own restaurant or boutique. I should be designing clothes and conjuring up delicacies rather than preparing tender bid documents

Ahh..there comes ur attitude girl.... This kind of self respect, self confidence (without getting overboard) is ur biggest plus..... Orey oru vishayam.... Even such kindaa responsibilities have its own pissing off moments and calls for your patience and character illa :) all these frustrating moments ah antha maathiri occasions smiling ah handle panrathukku preparatory ah ninaichikkalamae :)

Chill Girl..chill.... Have some great time ahead...

rsubras said...

and regarding quitting the job... try not to do that unless u feel it could get on to ur nerves or u really have a better thing to do than this one.... again imvho :)

i don't know about india, but i find myself extemely lucky to have a job here... so small things at work do not bother me one bit... i'm glad i can see the paycheck coming in every fortnight.. on the same note, if things at work go out of hand, then maybe you should start looking for a new job.. with the way the indian economy is booming these days, i'm sure there are tons of people hiring...

the next time, maybe knock on the manager's door and tell him that you gotta go to the restroom and since you like to keep in touch with people, you swung by his desk just like how you swing by your friend's desk everytime you go to the restroom... he'll get tired of you saying "hi" to him three times a day, and will mind his own business..
